Mediation, Facilitation and Restorative Conversations

Facilitiation and Mediation for Employers

Business and Non-Profits, both new and old, encouter conflict around day to day communication, role confusion and planning for the future. No matter what’s going on, it can help to have an outside voice facilitate a meeting or mediate a one on one conversation so that all participants can focus on sharing their ideas, experiences and questions with the others. Based on your organization’s needs and goals, I will work with you to plan and implement an effective structure that conversations towards positive and durable outcomes.

I have worked with employers to:

  • Work through one on one conflicts and build agreements around solutions that will reduce friction moving forward and avoid legal or punative interventions.

  • Support organizations to create strategic plans that include buy in from all stakeholders.

  • Find agreements that allow participants to adhere to their values while also remaining solvent.

  • Help staff solve ongoing confclits within their team to enable them to focus on outcomes

Restorative Practices and Group Facilitation

For some communities, conditions (internal or external) can lead to a need for a conversation around a difficult topic. This could be a result of an acute event inside or outside of the group, or it can arise from longstanding tension in relationships, goals, and needs. In any case group facilitation may be an option to visit this conversation in a way that all voices have an opportunity to both express themselves and be heard.

Examples of Group facilitation

  • Restorative conversations around workplace conflict, communication and role confusion. Participants shared concerns and needs in order to create new norms around day to day operations.

  • Educational sessions followed by group conversations after harmful statements around race, gender, sex, sexual orientation, religion, etc… Participants reflected on how events effected themselves and others and came to agreements around creating a welcoming environment moving forward.

  • Facilitation board meetings and cooperatives as they determined strategic plans that would adhere to their mission and values and create sustainable pathways for their organization to advance.

  • Restorative conversations in response to a community tragedy allowing participants to talk about how the event which occured outside of their immediate community affected them and what next steps were needed.
